Yamiboi Photography: Eye and Drama

2012 brings a lot of new things for me and for Penfires. I’d like to veer away from the usual New Year first post and feature not my own works and not my own experiences.  This new year of the water dragon, I’d like to share the spotlight on personalities that interest me, of the many places that are hidden and those off the beaten path, and also things that may even surprise the average Pinoy in terms of culture, traditions and adventures we can have while we explore the many islands of the country. I figured what better way to kickstart this new direction than feature  someone I know, whose passion for his travel photography craft matches my fiery devotion in promoting Philippine travel and tourism.

Yami aka Antonio is the person whose eyes captures that drama in special moments in the photos found on his travel photography blog  Yamiboi Photography. He is a constant traveler bent on capturing iconic photos to share with everyone. He is also a good sport, he actually types his answers to my questions in the admin panel area hehhehe. Yep, I am not editing what he wrote. Know more about  yamiboi as he shares his own thoughts in his own words ^_^

What inspires you and where do you get the inspiration for your shoots?

yamiboi: I’m all for spontaneity. There’s a lot of drama in spontaneity especially when taking pictures. Planning ahead doesn’t quite work for me. If it intrigues me enough then I’m up for it. Heck it you’ll invite me now to drive to Bantayan, I just might do that and drop this interview.

How did you start out?

yamiboi: I’ve always loved taking pictures even back then when i just had to borrow my dad’s digicam. Cameras were just too expensive then. I’d always try to create drama in my shots. Then in January of 2011, my colleague sold me his DSLR and it allowed me to enter the Sinulog 2011 Photo Contest. I didn’t win though, I’ll win one someday. hehehe.

Today is the first day of the New Year, any special goals?

yamiboi: My short term goal is to get both feet into this photography thing. I guess I’m just so excited with this feature. (Coke ug coffee ray katapat). Eventually I’d like to venture into Travel and Photography. I have a business in mind, but im not just about ready to share it yet, some creep just might steal my idea!

Plans for 2012?

yamiboi: I’d like to do more shoots and earn from it of course! Venture into wedding photography. I know its saturated but I feel as though that there are only very few photographers who have taste and class. I’d like to think Penfires has a lot of class for featuring me in it… Hahaha!

(editor: hahahaha maybe I should rethink this feature thingy hehhe lol… nahhh guys, yami is hell-bent on being the best!)

 Share naman your 2012 wish?

yamiboi: I’d win a million dollars.

Why that?

yamiboi: So i can pay all magazines and websites to feature me. ;-D
