TIPS IN NAVIGATING CEBU JEEPNEYS

Yep, the good news is jeepney commuting in Cebu can be easy!

I learned of this Cebu jeepney number coding system when i was a kid from my father who advised me that whenever i am in the big city (yesss!) and got myself somehow lost, to just look-out for the jeep bearing the no ’23’ on the center of its masthead for that jeep is bound for ‘Lapu-Lapu City’, our place, and that ’23’ is our route code. A pretty neat trick for the province transportation system if i may so πŸ™‚

It always comes in handy because sometimes the jeeps pass by so fast that I can’t figure out its small signboard on the windshield whereas the route code is place prominently at the center top.  So ’23’ ’23’ ’23’ became my mantra because well i easily gets lost haha

The reason why i am writing about this so suddenly is because i was rereading the previous article about Taboan  Market and I mentioned there that one can take 04D and 06A to go to Taboan. Locals can easily figure out what i mean by 04 & 06 but chances are tourists would not have a clue.  And since this blog is design to be both a personal and a travel service blog, so this post.

πŸ™‚

So anyhow, Metro Cebu and nearby cities and towns follows  a number code for the jeepney routes. This number can be found usually at the top center of a jeep’s masthead.  The number can have a letter attached to it to signify the specifics of its route like you know that 23 will go to Lapu-Lapu City but 23D will go to LLC merkado and 23F will go to LLC Mepz and so on..

14D AYALA – COLON jeepney route

So these are the route codes. This is far from complete as the variations per code is not yet indicated. I will update this as soon as i am certain of the routes specifics, any help will be appreciated, just pls comment or email me.

jeepney route codes for nearby towns/cities:

Generally, as you go farther away from Cebu City the code number increases. Say you are planning a trip to Carcar to look at espadrilles then you noticed you are in the municipality of Minglanilla (043)   you can rest easy as  Carcar  (046) is still two towns away.

Hope this helps πŸ™‚

oh yah my favorite route is 04L Lahug because its route is JY Square – UP – Gorordo – AYALA – Mabolo – SM – Mabolo – IT Park / Waterfront Hotel – JY Square… you can figure the whys πŸ™‚

**** added info on this post ***

I often get emails from would be travellers to Cebu asking about how to commute to Taboan. Here’s my suggestion:

If you are staying somewhere near Fuente Osmena head to the Fuente skywalk in front of  Midtown Hotel/Metrobank Tower, take a jeepney from Lahug route code 04D, tell the driver to drop you off in Taboan Market. Generally Cebu drivers are helpful and they will advice you once you reach Taboan. You will get off  a corner away from the stalls selling dried fish, from that corner you will already see the dried fish stores but you have to take about 100 steps. On going back I suggest you take a taxi because it’s a bit tricky. Hope this helps. πŸ™‚

I have to use Fuente as the benchmark because that’s where local Cebu tourists and backpackers usually stays while visiting the province. If you’re staying somewhere else please leave a comment or email and i’d sure get back to you asap, I am almost always online hahah.

Tip: Going to Tabo-an from SM is easy. It’s the 10M jeeps. Be on the look out for these two places, and you will know that you ae already near the maket: Elizabeth Mall, then a few meters later, a pensionhouse (which says on its sign) corner Sangciangko.

I still have to try that 10M jeepney route to Taboan Market. Usually i prefer 10H if I am coming from SM Cebu (Bulacao-Pardo route). Then asked to be dropped off sa corner ng Taboan that’s before reaching Cebu City Hospital.

Next time i-try sad nako 10M πŸ™‚ Thanks for the heads-up!

Good day! we are going to tour cebu city and will stay in Plantation bay this August long weekend. How do we go about touring the city like Lapu-Lapu monuments,Larsian, Basilica and Taboan Market from the resort? Heard we can do away with rented cars and is much cheaper to travel by public transport. Your inputs will be highly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

      Hi Alex,

It depends on your starting point, where would that be? and also where are you headed specifically?

      1. Lapu Lapu City merkado (market) area?
      2. Lapu Lapu City Mepz 1 / Pusok / Airport / Mactan area?
      3. Lapu – Lapu City Mepz 2 / Tamiya /Basak / Marigondon area?

If you can comment back on on your starting point and the place you are headed to, I’d be able to help you better.

Thanks for dropping a comment here!

After I arrive Lapu Lapu City merkado from the airport. I try to head to cebu pier 3 from Lapu lapu ferry terminal , then take the jeepney to the south bus terminal. Is the plan feasible?

    Hi Alex,

Yes you can do that, once you left the pier 3 complex, it’s an intersection, there is a gasoline station across the street. Cross the street and ride a Labangon jeep, its 12L or 12G. Before you hop on a jeepney, please verify with the driver or the konduktor if they are going to pass by South Bus Terminal (I think they do) and tell the driver to drop you off in the SBT.

Hello Penfires. My family and I will visit Cebu on Feb. 25 until the 28th 2012. I just want to know how we’ll be able to go to Mactan Shrine from Cebu City using public transportation, jeepney in particular. By the way, we’ll be staying in an inn near Magellan’s Cross. are there jeepneys or multicabs within the area that directly goes to Mactan Shrine? Thank you so much.

      Hi Janice!

There is no direct jeepney from somewhere near Magellan’s Cross to Mactan Shrine. Make your way to SM and then sa SM Vhire kayo to Gaisano Mactan and then ride a “Punta Engano” multicab. P7.50 + P25 +15 = P47.50 each. Kung nasa 3 or 4 kayo baka mas maigi if taxi nalang kayo for convenience din.

      Hi Justin,

If you are asking about yellow airport multicab, they are available but there are only a few of them during the night.

The public jeepneys in Marina Mall are available 24 hours especially those bearing the sign “Highway”, these jeepneys go to Mandaue City. But if you are looking for jeepneys that go direct to SM Cebu, they are rare at night.

      Hi fearich,

Magellan to SM: Get on any jeepney with “Cathedral”, get off in Cathedral and just walk, ask local nalang pag nandun ka na.

Yung Oyster Bay is in Bridges Complex in Mandaue, malayo yun sa Fuente. Okay here is it: From your hotel in Fuente, get to SM (how? read my other commuting posts). Sa SM sakay ka ng any Mandaue bound jeepney. Tell the driver you are getting off in gasoline station in San Miguel. Madami tao bababa sa jeepney stop to. Get off then ride multicab with “Bag-O” signage. It is a MUST na “Bag-o” sakyan mo. Bag-O means ‘bago’ or ‘new’ in reference to the Marcelo Fernan Bridge. Inform driver sa Bridges ka lang. If makita mo na yung new bridge, lumagpas ka na. Wag kang lumagpas πŸ™‚

Yep, the diy cebu city tour is for one day itinerary lang. And nasa unahan lagi ang lechon eating sa list ko heheheh

      >>Dear is it easy to commute or hail a cab from regency fuente going to the beach and look for island hopping banca offers? How about the commute going back to the city? Thanks again!

Yep ang daming taxi’s sa Cebu. Fare from Fuente to Marigondon – Banban resort where you can rent a boat for island hopping is probably close to P250.00 (wag na kayo mag rent ng cottage or any beach resort sa Marigondon area but if you want you can try out affordable options: Vano Beach Resort or Rendezvous). Or alternative you go to Portofino (entrance fee P100) and then from there rent a banca. Please check my post about Cebu Affordable White Sand Beaches.

      Hi starsoracle =)

NO, you don’t take the 06H from Ayala to get to SM. Take 03Q in the Ayala terminal, ground level first jeepney queue, once it gets filled-up it goes direct to SM. The 06H goes to Guadalupe first before going to SM.

Alternative option, take 04L these passes in the road between Pag-ibig building and Ayala building. If you are facing ayala terminal, this is the main road on the right.

Anyhow, just get to Colon, then find either 02A or 01B (best choices since these two jeepneys passes by the gate of Pier 3). Alternative transpo are Labangon 12G or 12I, these goes to the corner of V. Sotto and Sergio Osmena Blvd, get down when jeepney turns left. Walk about 300 meters, duol ra sa eskina ang pier tres, malakaw ra jud. =)

Hi Che, ML Quezon Ave is in Lapu-Lapu City, that’s the main highway of Opon. Walk from gate of Pier 3 to the corner and ride SM-bound Labangon jeepneys 12G. In SM sakay vhire for Gaisano Mactan (Mepz). p.s. ML Quezon Avenue is a long road.

Pier 3 to Pacific Mall, I suggest get to SM, get down in A. Soriano Avenue in between SM and APM. Then take jeepney bound for Consolacion (24), Liloan (25), or Danao (26). Get off in Pacific Mall, inform driver.

Hi! Maayong gabii! Been reading your tips, and I was wondering if you could help me. What should be the exact jeepney to ride going to Danao Danasan Eco-Adventure Park? And from the park, is there any transportation going back to Danao City? Advance thank you! =)
