Grabeng kainit? Why not go visit the ice skating rink in select SM City malls. You can choose between ALL DAY Pass and Hourly Rate.
Children and even adults will surely love to spend a few hours or even the whole day having fun in a cold temperature environment while in the company of friends, love ones, and family.
If you are based in Luzon, SM Mall of Asia has its own ice skating rink which you can find beside the SM ARENA building. Penfires still have to verify if the rates in MOA for whole day skating and per hour fee is the same with the rates in SM Seaside City Cebu.
SM San Pablo also installed a temporary ice skating rink, it was operational starting a few days ago, not sure until when they’ll have it though. Try to ask the nearby SM mall in your place if they’ve also set-up mini rinks inside their mall for this summer.
*If you know of any on-going ice skating promo, do let us know by leaving a comment at the end of this post. Thank you for sharing!
What to Bring When You Go Ice Skating?
If you have your own ice skating gear, you can use it. If you don’t have one, there are skating shoes or hockey shoes that will be provided to you. No additional skating shoe rental payment since this is already factored in your entrance fee to the ice skating rink of SM.
However, if there are lots of guests, there is a chance that there will be no available size that fits you. When you pay the entrance fee at the counter, ask if they still have skating shoes in your size first, otherwise, you might need to wait for one to be free or use one that does not fit you perfectly.
Ice skating shoe sizes uses European size measurements 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, etc. Filipinos typically use US shoe sizes so you need to convert your shoe-size to European size first.
Socks are required before you are allowed inside the rink, so make sure you bring one. If you forgot, you can buy socks at the counter or in the department store.
First timers to ice skating worry not, since you can avail of the services of an assist coach or trainor for a minimal fee. OR you can request to get a polar bear balancers. I saw penguin balancers in the mini ice skating rink in SM City San Pablo a week ago. 🙂
Those who easily gets cold, bring gloves and jackets.
Don’t forget that all guest will need to sign a waiver before one can enter the rink.
Companions can enter the area immediately outside the rink but needs to pay 100 pesos as companion fee. There are a few tables for those who will avail of the companion pass. *For those who don’t want to shell-out another hundred, just across the rink is the food court, you can take snack or meal while you wait for those who entered the ice skating rink.
There are also lockers at P50 rental fee for safekeeping of your things and valuables.

Advise for Adults Who Wants to Try Ice Skating for the First Time
Be like a child who doesn’t mind if he embarrasses himself if he falls on the ice. Sometimes adults who are first timers in ice skating are immobilized with the fear of embarrassment.
“What if I fall flat on my butt, people will laugh at me.”
“What if I can’t take even one step once inside the rink… what will people think.”
Be like a child who will push on after experiencing failure.
“I’m too afraid to move.”
“I’m never going to learn.”
“I fell, I’m quitting now.”
A child will put on the skating boots, enter the rink, try to skate, fall, get-up, try to skate again, fall, get-up, fall… until they learn how to really skate on ice. I know because I’ve been there last 2012. I was too fearful of embarrassing myself that I can’t let go of the side rails because I might fall. And the child who entered the rink the same time I did confidently whizzed past me after just about 15 minutes of being in the ice, while I have only taken a few steps. I was practically rooted on a single spot for a whole 10-minutes, hehe.
Anyhow, don’t be like me, be like the child. Skate like a child. 🙂
This summer, especially these hot, hot months, try ice skating. Go to SM Seaside if you are in Cebu, or SM MOA if you are in/near Manila.
Create memories on the ice! 😉
