This has been the 5th Christmas when I was saying that I want to start collecting stuff for my dream Christmas Village – you know those cottages covered with snow and ice, Christmas sceneries – of Santa Claus and his reindeer, kids on sleigh, guys and girls having fun on the skating rink, children caroling and the likes. Yah I know what I want to collect does not represent Paskong Pinoy and I’ve never experience spending Christmas elsewhere but in the Philippines, yet still the figurines and miniature collectibles of a white Christmas is something that I really look forward to having. But for the meantime that I don’t have a single one of these Christmas Village miniatures, I have to look somewhere else to gaze at the wonders of these old-fashioned village sceneries during Christmas. And well hours after I learned that SM City Cebu has this huge Christmas Village of Hope on display to the public, guess what I did?
=) Took a bath and went to SM lol (am I verging on being pathetic here? Hehehe
I was happy to see a chocolate factory among the collection!
SM City Cebu’s Christmas Village of Hope is open to the public from November 27,2011 to January 2, 2012. So if you are from Cebu and like me loves to look at Christmas villages on display then head to SM and take pictures of the houses, the chocolate factory, the opera house, the arcade, the trains, carriages and more. ( I did sssshhhh….). They also have their usual tall Christmas trees at the center of the entertainment area in NorthWing. Although I have to say that last year Christmas trees looks more wonderful compared to this year, but the special Christmas Village of Hope more than makes up for it. (I honestly don’t like the clowns – it does not feel Christmassy at all. And the color choice is a bit gloomy :(.. hope SM Cebu’s 2012 Christmas trees and holiday display will be more awesome. I’m looking forward to it. =)
If you look at the pictures below you’ll notice aside from the multitude of pine trees, there are lots of flags or markers with names. It’s a distraction to the display figures but it’s something the public should be thankful for. Why? First, everyone can view the Christmas Village of Hope for free. Second, the more name tags there are attached to a Christmas village scene, the more funds generated for the Kythe Foundation. Yep, it is called Christmas Village of Hope because the display brings hope and Christmas cheer to the recipients of the foundation. And who are they? They are indigent children with cancers that are being help by the Kythe Foundation. So when you start complaining about these name markers and tags attached to the miniature collections, please try not to and enjoy instead what is on display. And know that sharing and giving is at work.
If you have the means, I hope you will consider donating to the foundation by sponsoring one of the display figures. You can just go to the display area and they have a table there and staff who will help you find a collection you want to have your name tag on.
*Although my apologies to some sponsor as I changed some of the banners to Penfires in the pictures below. This blog post is Penfires way to support the cause and spread the word.
