I remembered I was on the field working when my favorite former boss called me up and excitedly told me to come down to Bonifacio High Street, “Now na!” and to tell my districtmate and friend Mau to also come. “Why boss?” bewildered, I asked. “Opening na ng Krispy Kreme!”
I did not know what Krispy Kreme was then, having grew up knowing only about Jollibee and Bananacue, imported donuts and American goods belongs to sphere outside my immediate surrounding, but I trust that when my ex-boss, who is so picky about everything food, says something taste good, then I know it must taste good!
So from Laguna, I went straight to Taguig. =)
I was there with Boss John and Mau when Krispy Kreme first opened its doors in the Philippines to the Filipinos lol. I could not believe my eyes when I saw that the line was real long. As in ang haba ng pila! Wow!
The three of us were munching and savoring these delicious and super soft donuts when lo and behold La Greta entered the Krispy Kreme store. She did not line like the rest of us, what do you expect lol. And what’s more when she, her daughter and her entourage where inside the store, the Krispy Kreme doors were closed on the extending necks and bulging eyes of those still queuing outside. I don’t know whether she requested the doors be closed or the people at Krispy Kreme thought it best to avoid a stampede inside their newly opened Krispy Kreme store hehehe
So anyway, me, Mau and boss John spared her some glance and turn back our attention to our intense discussion on the fine qualities of a great donut (or doughnut) while seeping Krispy Kreme coffees. Ang taray hahah
We left the store at Taguig happy with our loots.. literally boxes and boxes of Krispy Kreme =)
Why the sudden nostalgia post about Krispy Kreme?
Well, this Saturday, October 22 is the opening of the first Krispy Kreme store outside of Manila and it is here in Cebu.
Krispy Kreme Opens Its Doors in Cebu for the Cebuanos!
The first KK Cebu branch will open in Ayala Center Cebu, the poster also says Cebu IT Park. I am not sure if that is a simultaneous opening. But anyway Titus and I are planning on being there at Ayala to try our luck to be part of the first 100 customers. Krispy Kreme have opening gifts / prizes for those earliest on the line – free one year supply of Krispy Kreme doughnuts for the 1st customer and other prizes for those further down the line up to the 100th customer.
No, we don’t intend to camp out in the doors of the mall hehehe just to be the first on the line. But it will be fun to see how long the line will become and how unruly (or not) the people will be. Cebuanos are very competitive in nature you know and I can’t wait to see these competitiveness in action come Saturday (that is if I can wake up early and drag myself to the mall hehehe).
Anyway for those Cebuanos who are wanting a taste of Krispy Kreme, you no longer have to wait for friends from Manila to bring you their original glazed donuts or their bestsellers like New York cheesecake doughnuts as pasalubong because you can now drop by the Krispy Kreme store in Ayala Cebu and get one or a dozen for youself. Good eh? Pair it with their signature brewed coffee and you have a winning combo!
(The krispy kreme doughnuts tend to be really sweet, so beware to those who are diabetics.)
If you don’t want to brave long lines you may choose to wait and visit the store after a few months when the hype dies down, it will eventually die down the way of Breadtalk I think. I am not sure if you agree with me but knowing Cebuanos… well, time will tell, sabi nga nila =)
O cia, all these talks about doughnuts makes me hungry. Bye now, will look for a midnight snack =)
Updated: Lol so we went there and well, we did not make it to the first 100 despite being there 2 hours before Krispy Kreme Cebu opens lol.. what can I say there were some who camped out the night before lol, read the story HERE.
May 2012 – There is now a new branch of Krispy Kreme in Cebu for 2012 and it’s located in SM City Cebu beside Starbucks. And noooo we did not attempt to line again though they have the same opening gimmicks, prizes and promo when they opened in Ayala
