I’ve promised in one of my earlier posts Tips in Navigating Cebu Jeepneys, that I will be updating the route codes as well as the roads these jeepneys will pass. Unfortunately, it’s so big a task to complete with my limited time, so I will just update what I think is handier especially to tourists and visitors traveling here in Cebu.
If you are bringing big bags and luggage, I recommend you TAKE a TAXI.
Public transpo particularly jeepneys and vhires are ONLY RECOMMENDED FOR THOSE BRINGING one knapsack / one small trolley bag.
If you are four in a group, a taxi is a good option since you can split the cost and is more cost-effective and of course, more convenient.
Mactan Airport to SM Cebu or Ayala Center Cebu via Jeepney
From Mactan International Airport you can actually take public transport all the way to Ayala Center Cebu or SM Cebu or Pier 3 or to anywhere you want to go in the island.
There is an airport multicab that plies the route Airport – Marina Mall – Lapu Lapu City (Opon) Mercado, route code is MI-05a. You can’t mistake them as these multicabs are the only public vehicles allowed to enter the airport vicinity and all of them are colored yellow. So anyhow take one of these yellow multicab and get off in Marina Mall. In Marina Mall you can ride another jeepney that plies the route Opon-Mandaue or Opon-SM, these jeepneys will take the Marcelo Fernan Bridge and on to their destinations.
Mactan Airport Yellow Multicab
If you are going to Ayala Center ask the driver first if his route is by way of Mandaue Coliseum and then SM (and NOT Marina -Parkmall – SM). Then request the driver to drop you off in Mandaue Coliseum. Cebuano drivers and passengers are generally friendly and will advice you when you need to get off from the vehicle.
Ride a 20A Mandaue – Ayala jeepney in the vicinity of Mandaue Coliseum. (21B Mandaue – Ayala is no longer allowed to enter the Ayala Public Terminal but if you get tired of waiting for 20A jeepneys, you can still ride 21B but know that you will have to walk from Keppel building to Ayala Center. Most likely 10 minutes brisk walk. If init ang panahon, parusa that’s why I personally prefer waiting for 20A, medyo tamad kasi ako maglakad heheheh). From Ayala you can also reach Fuente Osmena and Downtown Cebu via jeepney.
If you are heading to SM Cebu from the Mactan Airport take the same airport multicab and ride the second jeepney at Marina Mall. You can take any jeepney with signboard that says “SM”. It doesn’t matter whether the route is via Parkmall or via Mandaue Coliseum since both route will converge near the North Bus Terminal then onwards to SM.
When you arrive in SM they have a jeepney terminal there that can take you to Cebu downtown including Labangon, Pardo, Basak, Urgello etc and of course, IT park in Lahug. Downtown Cebu is where you can find the Sto Nino Cathedral as well as the Magellan Cross, Colon Street and Taboan Market. SM is highly recommended as a starting point because there are lots of jeepneys plying the SM route as well as vhires and taxis.
Anyhow there maybe only 5 or 10 yellow airport multicabs so you may need to wait a bit if you want to ride that, but you’ll be saving money! Alternatively, there are taxis in the Mactan airport that you can take and then to save just get off in Marina Mall and ride a jeepney from there.
These yellow multicabs are available 24 HOURS.
So how much would it cost you to ride a jeepney all the way from the airport to SM or Ayala? Here is the breakdown:
Airport multicab to Marina Mall – P8 ( travel time about 5 minutes)
Marina Mall to Mandaue Coliseum – P8 (travel time depends on the traffic, usually about 15 to 30 minutes)
Mandaue Coliseum to Ayala Center Cebu – P10.00 (travel time around 45 mins to an hour)
Marina Mall to SM Cebu – P14.00 (travel time anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes)
If you are heading out of Cebu, you can take the Vhire from SM, fare is only P25 to reach Gaisano Mactan, then take a multicab from Gaisano Mactan to Marina Mall P8. Then take the airport yellow multicab in Marina Mall to get to the Mactan airport P8.
Vhires from SM route has been changed and they are now up to Gaisano Mactan only. Previously, they go all the way to Marina Mall.
NEW UPDATED GUIDE as of SEPTEMBER 2017!!!
Hope this helps! Welcome to Cebu! ^_^
Airport to Cathedral or Sto Nino via Jeepney
I am again updating this post since a lot of rerouting has happened since this was last updated. Today is March 18,2013.
To get to Sto Nino or Cebu Cathedral or Colon and the downtown area, I suggest that you ride these jeepneys:
1. Airport multicab to Marina Mall.
2. Marina Mall to Maguikay Highway – these jeepneys and multicab carries the signage “highway”, get down before you see Maguikay flyover. Drivers usually announced “naay Maguikay?” “Anyone getting down in Maguikay?” Just say yes. Request other passengers to remind you if your jeepney is nearing Maguikay, Cebuanos are kind to travelers.
3. Ride any Mandaue jeepney with signboard “Catedral” – this will take you all the way to Cathedral. And from Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral you can walk to the next tourist spots like Sto Nino Basilica and Magellan’s Cross or even all the way to Colon St or to Plaza Independencia.
VHIRE ALTERNATIVE TO JEEPNEYS:
If your flight will arrive in Cebu after 9 AM, then there is a more convenient way for you to get to SM Cebu or Ayala Center Cebu.
1. Airport yellow multicab and get off in Gaisano Mactan Island Mall P8.
2. Ride a vhire in Gaisano Mactan, they have vhire bound for SM and AYALA. The SM vhires are filled up faster than the Ayala Vhire.
Gaisano Mactan vhire to SM – P25.00
Gaisano Mactan vhire to Ayala – P35.00

Hi, it’s me again.Ask ko lang ulit cille kung anu marerecommend mo na puntahan namin ng Gf ko dahil we will be arriving at mactan 2pm then ang ferry pa namin going to Tagbilaran bohol is 6pm @ pier1 via oceanjet. Do you think ok na yung around sa magellan’s cross and places nearby or meron ka marerecommend? please tell me kasi ok naman na yung ticket ng ferry namin, i ordered online hehe 😀 TIA again!
penfires says
Hi Rx,
okay na yung places nearby dun sa Cebu Walking Tour ko na post since lapit lang ng places to each other. Dapat you have to be at the port by 5pm din kasi kaya mas ok na yung malapit lang kayo sa pier.

hi, cille!
my arrival time in cebu is at 8am my departure time to davao is at 8pm.
how will i reach tabuan? wanna buy dried fish. how many hours will be my travel time frm airport to tabuan ang back to airport? including the traffic… it will be my 1st time in cebu
pahabol:ano pwede kong puntahan n mga sites in cebu given the time i need to catch for my departure.tnx!
penfires says
Hi rhea! I hope this reply is not too late. To get to Taboan from aiport, get to SM. Please see main post above to know how to do this. In SM ride 12L Labangon jeepneys, get off in “Borromeo”please tell driver. Then look for 06B or 06A jeepneys (not too sure which is which) or any jeepney with “Taboan”. Dadaan yung Taboan jeep sa likod ng Cebu Fortuna Bakery which is in Borromeo. Or just ask any locals madali lang yun. Travel time baka close to 2 hours. Tapos pabalik from Taboan ride 12G and get off in Cathedral. In Cathedral walking distance na ang Sto Nino, Magellan’s Cross, Cebu Heritage Monument. After go back to where you get off in Cathedral and ride again 12G to SM. Lunch at CNT yellow building front of SM jeepney terminal. In SM catch a vhire ride to gaisano Mactan. Then ride a multicab “Punta Engano” to get to Mactan Shrine. Para nasa Lapu-Lapu City ka na by afternoon. After the shrine get back to marina mall by riding “mercado”bound multicab. You can try out Harbour City Steamed Rice (wala neto sa Manila, I am not sure if this is available in Davao?) tapos pag around 6pm na, get on yellow multicab in marina to get to airport. Kaya yang IT na to for your short stay in Cebu.
Will copy this to your email.

thanks for the info….last question same din ba yung jeep na sasakyan ko going back to SM from AYALA then going back to SM from CATHEDRAL……
what is the best way papuntang FORT SAN PPEDRO from CATHEDRAL? my jeep ba papunta don?
thanx in advance…pasensya na kung marami akong question
penfires says
Hi Robert,
Sm to Ayala same jeepney, Cathedral to SM same din but yung jeepney stop pabalik gilid ng Patria Cebu na, building tapat ng Cathedral, just ask locals there where to ride 12G to SM.
To go to Fort San Pedro, walk it, ang lapit na lang. And no jeepney to there.

Hi Cille.. Can u teach me exactly how to go to this places? Although I’ve read already some instructions I just wanna be sure. Hehehe. I will really appreciate your help.
1. From Mactan Airport to Hotel Stella (in front of Robinson’s Mall – Don Gil Garcia Street Capitol Site)
2. From Robinson’s Mall to South Bus Terminal (is this a walking distance only?)
3. From Robinson’s Mall to Magellan’s Cross
4. From Magellan’s Cross to SM Cebu
5. From SM Cebu to Mactan Airport
Thank you! Thank you in advance!
I will be waiting for your reply. Hehehe. Godbless!:)
Im really excited for my Cebu Trip
Mike says
i have noticed that for V-hires you wrote that if i want to go to ayala, from the airport i ride a yellow multicab, get off gaisano mactan and ride the vhires going to either SM/Ayala, but when going back i noticed that u posted that from ayala i ride the vhires, get off gaisano mactan but this time I ride another jeepney bound for mepz, get off marina mall and thats where I ride the yellow multicabs going to the aiport, is it still possible to just ride the yellow mutlicabs from gaisano mactan and head straight to the airport?
penfires says
Hi Mike,
No, this is because the yellow multicab ends their return route in Marina Mall terminal (and not the airport). And these multicab need nila i-unload lahat ng pasahero sa terminal and then pipila. So if let’s say naka-timing ka ng yellow multicab sa Gaisano and you ride that, you will ‘be force’ to get off in Marina and then transfer dun sa multicab na nasa una ng pila.

hi i would like to ask what best route papuntang malacanag sa sugbu from cebu cathedral…at the same time pabalik din sa cebu cathedral
thnx in advance….
penfires says
@cedrick, you can walk to Malacanang sa Sugbo kasi relatively near na to siya and walang jeepney route there. Colon – Cebu Heritage Monument – Cathedral – Sto Nino – Magellan – Fort San Pedro – Malacanang sa Sugbo near to each other ang mga to. Most of the Cebu City downtown roads are one way kaya mas maigi pa mag walk nalang. Pag nasa Fort San Pedro ka tanaw mo ang Malacanang sa Sugbo.

Hi Cille! A few follow up questions on my itinerary:
1) After City Tour, how do we go to Larsian or Fuente?
2) What do we ride from Portofino to Sutukil?
3) Then Sutukil to Marina Mall?
4) What do we ride from Marina Mall to Cebu Yacht club?
And also, mas masarap daw ang Zubuchon than CNT? I’d like to hear your thoughts on this 😀
Mike says
ill be arriving in cebu tom around past 830pm, is there still a chance that I could still catch a vhire in gaisano mactan? whats their last scheduled trip?
penfires says
Hi Mike, normally one of the last trip is at 8pm unless they have a midnight sale or something. You can still try to go there but baka wala ka nang abutang vhire.

penfires says
Hi Bonna, yep 24/7 yung airport multicab. At night rare ang Marina to SM jeepneys. Alternative is jeepneys bound to Highway and get off in Mandaue Coliseum and then Coliseum to SM. Just look for the needed signboards. Hope you’ll enjoy commuting in Cebu! =)

sis just for comparison, would you know how much aabutin ang taxi fare from airport to fuente circle (sa area ng robinsons/crown regency) and ilang minutes ang travel time more or less…thanks
penfires says
@Dimples, taxi fare from airport to Fuente would probably be close to P250. Travel time around 45 minutes to an hour if rush hour ka mapatapat. Mas matagal travel time sa jeepney / public transpo kasi pag hindi Sunday almost 1 hour and a half na, I tried it last Friday.

Hi Ms Pearl, please read po all the other posts under category : CEBU CITY TOUR. You can find answers to your questions there.
Sutukil in Mactan is just beside the Mactan Shrine Lapu – Lapu Monument, once you are in Lapu- Lapu City just ride any multicab bound for Punta Engano. For other directions to other tourist spots, please refer to previous published posts and comments. Thanks!

Hello ate Cille Anne. I read most of your posts, and they’re nice, particularly your post about Cebu. Pupunta kasi kami ng Cebu on April 29…then Bohol on April 30…and nakapagpareserve na kami ng room sa Samapguita Suites Plaza Garcia. Yun yung malapit sa Cross di ba? Patulong sana ako ng jeepney routes kasi tight budget talaga. I’ll be sending my itinerary sau via email sana, for suggestions and tamang sequence. Thanks.
Ifefeature ko din kasi Cebu @ http://www.travextravels.com come May (after our trip),so hopefully matulungan mo ako! Thanks po! More power.
penfires says
Hi Joven! Thanks for reading! Yung Sampaguita Suites it’s in Fuente, a bit far from the Cross but closer to more tourist destinations. One day lang kayo sa Cebu? ang ikli, di bale balik na lang kayo. Anyhow yah send it to my email, I’ll take a look but please be detailed with your IT and I’ll critique it if it’s doable. =)
Joven says
Dalawa kasi yung Sampaguita Suites na nakalagay sa site nila, JRG at yung Plaza Garcia..I chose yung sa Plaza Garcia. Anyway ate send ko sa penfires(at)gmail(dot)com yung IT namin by this week or next week. Thanks po!
Actually, dapat sana 2 days Cebu tapos 2 days Bohol kami from Apr 29 to May 2..pero nacut up to May 1 na lang.

Hi Joven, okay will wait. And thanks for the offer, will be doing that pag magawi ako ng Baguio na andun ka =)

Hello Ate Cille. I just sent you my itinerary for Cebu via e-mail. Hope you consider it for any suggestions and corrections. If you could add some maps or routes, it would help a lot.
I’ll be noting you on my website by the time we have finished already the trip. Thanks a lot! 🙂

Hi Joven, nakks very detailed yung IT na inisend mo, talagang naka-excel! heheh but that is good kasi kung ako pa magsusulat, I’d probably not reply kasi masyadong time consuming na and yung details nasa mga Cebu City Tour posts na naman. So anyway, thanks for the very detailed IT, very easy to check =)

Thanks ate Cille. Sige I’ll tell your suggestion to my other 2 friends (we’re just 3). Very informative. Bale I’ll be making a new itinerary, complying to what you suggested. I’m already excited about this. Thanks again! 🙂

Hi Bonna, I missed replying to this query: “hi..ask lang po pano pumunta ng oslob, cebu from sm cebu.tnx”
Planning for a Oslob Whale Shark Adventure? 🙂
Sa SM ride 12L (Labangon) or 10M/H – and tell the driver sa corner lang ng Cebu South Bus Terminal. May konting lakad a few meters lang. Tapos pag dating sa terminal get on any bus with “oslob via liloan” or “santander” or “dumaguete via oslob liloan”. If you can chance upon Ceres Aircon Buses bound for South Cebu mas better – maayos yung leg room.

Hi jigger, medyo malayo nasa Fuente area kasi sya, if mag commute from airport – about 1 and a half hour ang Crowne Regency pag traffic.

Hello Ate Cille. Change plan kami. 2 days cebu na kami, nabasa ko yung post mo about Camotes. Dun n lang kami pupunta. Question ko lang is paano pumunta sa Camotes from Magellan’s Cross? Kahit madaling araw open pa rin yung jeep terminal sa SM..or kung may alternative na sakayan…thanks… 🙂
penfires says
Hi Joven,
Wala ng terminal sa SM at dawn, what you do is go to North Bus terminal, from Magellan’s Cross area ride an 01K (Urgello – Colon – SM – Northbus) to get to the CNB terminal, but since madaling araw yan, I’d rather you take a taxi, baka less than P100 lang yan, safe pa kayo. Tapos sa Northbus ride any bus, confirm with konduktor na ibaba kayo sa Danao port going to Camotes. North Bus to Danao would probably be 1 hour at dawn kasi walang traffic. Danao to Consuelo Camotes 2 hours boat ride. Check the Camotes post to see the schedule of Jomalia Shipping.
Cille =)

Ok thanks Ate Cille! More power! 🙂

hi ask ko lang ma’am kung 24 hrs ung market sa taboan po? salamat
Cille Anne says
hi mark, if you are asking specifically about the Taboan Dried Fish Center, they are not open for 24 hours. usually start sila open 7am, although its best to go there by 8am para open na majority of the dried fish store.
Taboan also closes around 6pm, sometimes 5pm palang matamlay na dun sa Dried Fish center kaya yung ibang mas maaga sa 6pm mag close. Pero Taboan market as a whole they are 24 hours open.
You can check this post on Taboan for more info:

unsay sakyan pdulong sa santo ninyo de cebu gikan sa higway mandaue city?
Cille Anne says
walay direct na mo-agi sa kilid sa Sto Nino from Mandaue. But you can ride any “cathedral” bound jeep from Mandaue highway then just walk to Sto Nino. Duol naman na, just ask bystander sa direction when you get to Cebu Cathedral.

Hi Cille Anne,
I just arrived from Cebu after staying a couple of years in USA. I almost forgot most of the jeepney routes. I’d like to ask which jeepney rides will I take if I’ll go to Lapu-lapu city starting from Talamban, Cebu City? i’m staying with my brother who resides at Talamban although I need to attend a seminar held at Crown Regency Suites at Lapu-Lapu City.
Do most jeepneys pass through the old mactan bridge and or the newer one?
Thank you and more power!
Cille Anne says
Hi Chris,
I assumed by Talamban you mean Talamban proper. If that is the case, ride any Consolacion – Talamban route, then when you get to the Major Intersection in Mandaue, you will see Jollibee and Mercury drug on the corners and in the adjacent corner you will see KFC. Tell driver you are getting off in KFC. Then walk to the side of KFC, turn left, you will pass by Andy Hotel. As you walk to the corner, you will notice there are Opon / Mepz / Tamiya jeepneys passing perpendicular to the street you are walking on, ride any “TAMIYA” multicab.
Only Tamiya will pass by Crowne Regency. Avoid multicabs with “Bag-O” signage as this will pass by the new bridge.
Enjoy your vacation!

Hi Cille!
ask lang ko, wala ba nag change ang mga route sa mga jeepney sa cebu? need help from you Cille. First time mag byahe na dalawa kami in Cebu papuntang Moalboal. I ask many times sa mga friends ko and iba-iba mga sagot nila when it comes to route eh. Plan namin mag commute lang.
Going to South Bus Terminal
1) Mactan at departure area ride yellow multicab.
2) Where we supposed to drop? at MARINA or GAISANO MACTAN?
3) what route yung sasakyan namin from there?
4) anu yung mas safe VHIRE o JEEP?
return route from South Bus Terminal
1) sbt papunta basilica?
2) basilica papunta sm?
3) sm papuntang marina para makasakay ng yellow multicab?
24/7 po ba yung yellow multicab?
please. please. please. need help from you.
Thank you and more power!
Mart

Hi Mart,
Please read this post, your questions on how to get to Cebu SBT are answered there: How to go to Cebu South Bus Terminal
Return route is also covered there but since you plan to go to Sto Nino Basilica, there is no direct route. It’s either you walk all the way back to Jones avenue, and ride any jeep with ‘Sto Nino’ route (im not sure what jeep plies from there) or take a taxi or ride 12G (detailed on the same post indicated above). 12G will pass by Cathedral building. Cathedral is close to Basilica and kaya talaga lakarin. Look out nalang for signage “Cathedral”. Mas magadanda if ang sign is “Sto Nino.”
After your Basilica stop, walk to Cebu Cathedral. Front of Cathedral, you will see Patria Bldg. Side of Patria there are 12G jeepneys bound for SM. Then take SM Vhire to Gaisano Mactan, then multicab to marina, then yellow multicab to airport.
Kung nasa Sto Nino na kayo, daan na rin kayo ng Magellan’s Cross a few meters away from the church yun.
And yep, 24/7 yung yellow multicab. I’ve just confirmed again with airport multicab driver last night when we’ve arrived from Manila. =)
