I’m at that point in my life when I am thinking more and more about investing in financial instruments. I know investment and learning about investment is ideally embrace at a younger age but my younger years where consumed by other pressing things. Or I am just making excuses for myself hehe.
Early last year, I signed up for a BDO UITF just because investment and the stock market were getting good spots on the evening news and a lot of people were talking about the booming market and all that. So I signed up without really understanding what I was getting into, yep, bandwagon mentality and am guilty as charged.
UITF = Unit Investment Trust Fund
A week after signing up for a bank managed UITF account, the original amount I’ve put in had been reduced by a few hundreds, then in the weeks that follow it’s again reduced by a couple of hundreds, and more hundreds of ‘unrealized loss’ in past months. Lol. I wasn’t disheartened I know market movement fluctuates.
…plus it was my first time to try the investment route, so am okay.
I’ve just checked my online account moments ago and the dashboard still registers ‘unrealized loss’, but the fund is recovering a bit, the amount now is closer to the amount I’ve originally placed.
=)
Lesson learned is that my entry into the UITF was not an ideal timing. My attitude on this? You never loss, you just learn.
What could have been done to have a better result next time? Well, equip yourself with more knowledge so you can make informed decisions and take optimal actions.
How to do this? Read relevant books, connect with an investment mentor or attend a investment seminar workshop that is run by credible leaders in the industry.
…I want to learn more, and yes I want to invest like a Pro.
The moment I knew that come August 9,2014 Fitz Villafuerte is coming to Cebu to conduct one of his highly acclaimed Seminar – Workshop “Investing Like A Pro”, I muster enough courage and contacted one of the organizers. I really want to join the seminar because I know attending this seminar will give me an edge in choosing the best investment instrument that will fit me, help me in devising a workable plan, will give me more knowledge.

Investing Like a Pro Seminar Feedback
My friend Vet from the comment below requested for feedback via FB about the seminar and in a nutshell here’s what I’ve shared with her:
Hehe motivating vet! I’ve spent the early hours of today (Sunday) on self assessment, computing and targeting. Some of the best takeaways were paying yourself first, importance of following the steps strictly in this order save -> protect -> grow, and getting term insurance instead of life insurance. Akong plan to buy a ‘remembrance’ gift for self for an unexpected windfall na change nuon haha, ako nalng isave for future investment. Mindset changed. 🙂

as to your UITF, unsa imo gipili na fund? equity, balanced?

as for me, suicidal – stock market ko thru COL Financial. the last 3 years, been OK. not big ang returns for me, kay gamay pa man ako na.put.up. but comparing to bank’s, it gave me better yields.
