When you want to escape to the best beach destinations in Cebu, it’s either you head North for Bantayan Island and Malapascua Island or to South in Moalboal, Oslob, Badian, Sumilon Island etc. Mactan Island in Lapu-Lapu City is also a good choice if you have the budget since most of the awesome beach resorts here charges in dollars, i.e expensive for the average tourists and locals.
I have given tips on how to get to the Cebu North Bus Terminal from the airport and from SM or Colon in an earlier blog post. In this post I am going to share directions on how to commute from the airport to the Cebu Provincial South Bus Terminal. These are tips that can hopefully help you save funds since I’ll be sharing how to get to SBT by way of jeepneys and public commute.
Cebu City South Bus Terminal Complex
*These are mini buses, non-aircon.
You can commute all the way from the airport to the Cebu Provincial South Bus Terminal. You can also take a taxi but taxi fare would be around 200 to 230 pesos during light traffic. If you are traveling with your friends and you are 3 to 4 in your group, taking the taxi would be ideal for you.
In South Bus terminal, there are mini buses, regular Ceres buses, and air-conditioned Ceres buses as well as other bus companies plying the Cebu South road. As much as possible I would suggest for you to take the air-conditioned big buses so you will be more comfortable during the long ride.
How to Commute to Reach Cebu South Bus Terminal from Airport
Below are options for you to go to the terminal as cheaply as possible through public commute:
OPTION 1: Yellow multicab – Vhire to SM – 12G from SM – walk from corner to South Bus
While on the Cebu International Airport take a yellow multicab and inform driver to drop you off in Gaisano Mactan P8. In Gaisano Mactan Island Mall ride a Vhire to SM Cebu P25. In SM, go to the SM jeepney terminal and ride 12G Labangon P10 or any jeep with “CCMC” or “South Bus” signboard. Total fare is P43.
CCMC stands for “Cebu City Medical Center”.
You can request the driver to drop you off before reaching N. Bacalso Ave, this is NO 1 on the map below. This would be a few meters after passing CCMC. There is a traffic light on the junction, if the driver say he can’t drop you off since its ‘Go’ signal, you can alight from the jeepney after it passes the traffic light and reach N. Bacalso Ave, this is NO 2 on the map. You will have to walk a few meters from this corner to the terminal but it’s very doable.
Here is a map of the jeepney route followed by 12G, this particular map starts when the 12G Labangon jeep already reaches M.J. Cuenco from T. Padilla. Click the map for bigger view.
12G Route Map to Cebu South Bus Terminal
The route would be SM – White Gold – T. Padilla – M.J. Cuenco – Legaspi – V. Gullas – Magallanes – Borromeo – Sanciangko – Panganiban – N Bacalso all the way to Labangon.
Just before reaching the traffic light on N Bacalso para ka na sa driver, mas malapit ang lakad compared to if you get off the jeep after crossing the junction.
Option 2: Jeepney all the way: Yellow Multicab –Marina Mall Jeep – Mandaue Coliseum – SM – 12G/10H/10M – walk from corner at the intersection to the terminal.
Almost the same way except you will get off the yellow multicab in Marina Mall or after the Marina Mall / Airport intersection, just after you pass by Zubuchon/Island Stay. Fare is P8. Then ride a jeep bound for Mandaue Coliseum, these are jeepneys that bears the signage “Coliseum” and/or “Highway”, another P8.
In Mandaue Coliseum ride an “SM” bound jeepney P9. Get off in APM Mall which is across SM Cebu. At the front of APM, there are jeepneys bound for Labangon and Basak. Get on 10M / 10H / 12G / 12I. Before you get on the jeepney ask the conductor or the driver if they will pass by corner of South Bus. They do but you just want to be sure for your peace of mind. Fare is P10.
Remember that you will get off the jeepney at the corner and you have to walk a few meters to get to SBT.
I strongly suggest taking the Vhire instead of jeepney to get to SM but vhires starts operating at 8 am up to 8pm.
NOTE – If you are bringing big bags and luggage, I do not recommend taking the Vhire because of its cramp space.
RETURN ROUTE: South Bus Terminal to Airport
Updated Info May 7, 2013 – On your return trip, exit SBT, turn right and walk straight to Elizabeth Mall, on its main entrance there are 01K that can take you to SM.
In SM take a vhire to Gaisano Mactan P25. In Gaisano Mactan take any jeep with “Mepz” or “Marina Mall” P8. Get off in Marina Mall, go to the yellow multicab terminal and ride one to get back to the airport P8. Total fare: P51.
There is an extra P8 on the return trip. This is because even if you chance upon a yellow multicab in Gaisano Mactan, all passengers will be asked to get off in Marina Mall terminal so the driver can line up again in the terminal.
If you are going to Fuente, Capitol or Ayala – walk the 2 blocks to Jones Avenue, there take 14 D, it’s route is Colon – Fuente – Escario – Ayala.
**I still have to verify if the Basak route 10H and 10M from SM follows the route of 12G Labangon to get to N. Bacalso. I’ll update this post when I know for certain. When you get to SM, you can also ask the drivers of 10H and 10M if they pass by CCMC and corner of South Bus. I really think they do but I’m not 100% sure yet.

Just a quick question. Do the yellow airport multicabs and jeepneys operate 24/7 or is there a specific time of the first and last?
Cille Anne says
yep it’s 24/7 =) except for jeepneys bound for SM as it’s usually rare by 9pm but “highway” bound jeeps are 24/7 as well as most jeeps in Metro Cebu.

Hi Cille Anne!
I’ve read many blogs and comments about how to get to Mactan and from Mactan Airport through public transportation. Please do enlighten me 🙂
From Mactan Airport :
* we will look for “yellow multicab”, is it locate in the arrival area?
* drop off at “Gaisano Mactan”
* ride Vhire to SM
* ride 12G Labangon from SM
* where we supposed to stop to be in SBT?
How to Get to Mactan:
* from South Bus Terminal, we will take multicab going to Opon, drop off at Marina Mall.
* Marina Mall look for yellow multicab signboard LLC to Airport.
Please do correct me.
Hope to hear from you.
Thanks.

Hi Shayne,
Your question on how to get to SBT from the airport and from SBT to Mactan airport is answered on this post.
From Mactan airport to SBT , correct. Yellow Multicab is located in the departure area. You will have to climb up the stairs fronting the door/gate of the arrival area. Up the stairs is also the area where you can pick up white and yellow taxi as well as yellow multicabs.
Where you are supposed to get off, please see the map again it’s ether 1 or 2. 1 is before the intersection traffic light, 2 is after the jeep. In any case, just tell the driver you want to go to “South Bus”, they will drop you off the corner.
How to get back is also detailed on this post. Please reread for the direction. Click on the MAP so it will be bigger and you can read the street names.
Hope you can make use of the direction tips in commuting in Cebu. =)

Hi,
We will be arriving in Cebu at 4:45 AM. ‘would like to know if there are jeepneys or vhires at Gaisano mall during that time? If none, would you suggest alternative means of transpo? Please help.
Cille Anne says
hi, there are no vhires yet at that time. alternative is Option No 2 – I’ve updated the post to be more specific. Hope that helps!

hi Cille,
im going to cebu this august, so i was wondering if we took the yellow taxi from the airport, it will sent us straight to SBT with charge around 230 peso is it? and one more thing, how can we get the yellow taxi from SBT to mactan airport?
Cille Anne says
Hi Aina,
Yellow metered taxi has a flag down rate of P70 versus P40 for the regular (white) taxi. If you are taking yellow taxi from MCIA to SBT, fare might get close to P300. On the way back there are no yellow taxis, you can’t also contact them to pick you up. But I suggest you use the GrabTaxi app to come fetch you in SBT. Booking fee for GrabTaxi is P70 but offers great convenience. Alternative there are lots of regular taxi in SBT that can take you to Mactan airport. Enjoy your Cebu adventure!
