When it comes to affordable hotels or room accommodation in Makati, 3 options easily come to mind – Red Planet Amorsolo, Prince Plaza Condotel II, and RedDoorz Premium Greenbelt.
These hotels are budget-friendly. The cheapest we’ve booked was P1,432 for Red Doorz located near Greenbelt for a one-night stay.
These 3 hotels boast of excellent location! 2 are just a few steps from Greenbelt 1 and 5 – Prince Plaza and Red Doorz; If your business is somewhere near Chino Roces or Pasong Tamo or Makati Med, Red Planet Amorsolo is a good choice location wise.
Price wise Prince Plaza is generally the most expensive, they have extra-amenities for checked-in guests like use of gym and swimming pool. Cheapest is Red Doorz.
Room size wise, RedDoorz has the smallest room while Prince Plaza has the biggest room of the 3 we are comparing today.
We usually book these types of rooms in these hotels, room is good for 2 guests:
Red Planet Amorsolo – Double Room
Our last stay in Red Planet Amorsolo was last July 31 to August 1, 2018.
Prince Plaza Condotel – Studio or Studio Premier
Our last stay in Prince Plaza Makati was last August 21 to 22, 2018.
Red Doors Premium Greenbelt – Regular Room
Our last booking in RedDoorz near Greenbelt was last August 25 to 26, 2018.
Update today September 9, 2018: We stayed again in Red Doorz Premium Greenbelt last September 5 to 6 – we were given a room with a small bed, I think it’s a semi-double size good for 2 pax. Anyhow, we didn’t get a good night’s sleep, the bed’s too narrow for comfort. The price was the same as our August 25 to 26 booking, that earlier booking we were given a normal double bed.
So I am saying now that Red Doorz is a hit and miss depending on the bed size. Their location is awesome but because of this experience, I will think twice of booking Red Doorz.
There had been lots of errands and business in Makati lately, and we have to stay at least overnight because travel time between Liliw, our residence, is about 4 to 5 hours depending on traffic.
MAKATI HOTEL REVIEW
Here now is Penfires review of these affordable accommodation in Makati, plus some insights.
PILLOWS and BEDDINGS
These 3 hotels have firm, good quality bed. If I were to rank these 3, Red Planet Amorsolo comes first, then Red Doorz, then Prince Plaza.
On pillows – Red Planet hotels has 2 but you can request for extra pillow for free. Prince Plaza has 2 pillows, extra pillows are charge PHP 55 each. Red Doorz has 4 pillows.
On blanket – Prince Plaza has thin white blanket then a thicker brown blanket then another white blanket. I’m sorry I don’t know the proper term for them haha. In any case, we love them because we can take-out each, separate them for a more comfortable snug.
Red Planet and Red Doorz has one thick blanket. Not so perfect for us.
AIRCON
Titus and I wants our hotel room to be cold, for the aircon to work well.
Red Planet Amorsolo has aircon and ceiling fan. Awesome combo!
Prince Plaza Condotel II is a hit and miss. We’ve been in room with a split-time aircon and colder, we’ve also been in room with the aircon looking dated and not enough power to cool the room. Request to change room if the aircon is giving you trouble.
Red Doorz Greenbelt usually have box aircons but they are working well.
BATHROOM and SHOWER
I recommend that you bring your own hygiene kit upon check-in in any of these hotels.
Red Planet Amorsolo has one dispenser which contain gel that you can use as soap AND shampoo.
Red Doors offers two dispensers, one for body wash and one for shampoo, plus a mini hygiene kit containing a comb, toothbrush kit, and ear buds.
Prince Plaza gives out 2 bar of mini soap and 2 small tubes of shampoo.
These 3 Makati hotels have showers with good water pressure and water heater.
FOOD / BREAKFAST
Prince Plaza offers a choice – room only and room with free breakfast buffet. The buffet choices is a bit limited though but there is brewed coffee and juice (I think powdered juice), hot soup, a couple of bread choices, fresh fruit and salad station, a ‘hidden’ egg station (they won’t tell you that you can order sunny-side up or scrambled egg but it’s available), french toast is always available, we observed they served 4 viands with one of them, scrambled egg.
The last time we checked-in there, the following were on the buffet table: egg drop soup, bacon, sausage, mushroom omelet, scrambled egg, French toast, breads, fruits and salad, coffee and juice, plain rice. My hubby always says that there are at least 3 egg dishes on Prince Plaza’s menu, lol.
By the way, Prince Plaza is a serviced condotel, the numerous time we’ve been there are cooking implements inside the room plus refrigerator. Cups, Plates, Forks and Spoons, Microwave, Electric Kettle, Electric Stove. BUT on our last stay, when we needed plates, there was none. Weird. I don’t know if they’ve taken out their ‘service kitchen’ feature.
Red Planet has a connected restaurant, you can add free breakfast to your room accommodation for PHP 250. But we haven’t tried it. For breakfast whenever we are checked-in in Red Planet Amorsolo is to either have coffee and bread in 7 Eleven located on the same building of the hotel or walk a few meters to Mang Inasal store in the corner.
The branch of Red Doorz near Greenbelt doesn’t have a free breakfast option, you can’t also add-it. But there are Mini Stop and 7 Eleven nearby. As in very near the hotel. Or if you woke up late, you can have brunch in Greenbelt 5 or 1, it’s just across the building.
**2 free bottles of mineral water are given by Prince Plaza and Red Doors Premium near Greenbelt Makati. Red Planet none free.
INTERNET WIFI CONNECTION
Red Planet’s wifi’s speed is the best of the 3, I can actually work on a blog post while connected on their wifi. The worst is RedDoorz, we had trouble in loading even just Facebook.
*RedDoorz will email and txt you a link with navigation direction to get to the hotel from your current location using Google Map. Very useful if you are not familiar with Makati area.
PENFIRES RECOMMENDATION
Which hotel is my first choice over-all? It depends on the reason why we are in Makati. If it’s mainly to shop in Greenbelt, Glorietta, Landmark or we have a business in the area, it’s either Prince Plaza or Red Doors. Depending on the room price and the discount offered.
If our main target was Mall of Asia or the expos in World Trade or SMX, we choose to stay in Red Planet Amorsolo. The closest Red Planet is the one in Aseana but sadly the Aseana branch prices have gone wayyy up, no longer reasonable for us since there are cheaper alternatives.
If it’s hotel near Manila Airport, our go to hotel is GoHotels Airport Road branch.
By the way, we always book via Agoda or direct via the hotel app depending on which option gives the best price and discount. I included links to the hotels in Agoda in this blog post and Makati hotel review. If you will book thru my link, I’ll earn a few pesos, at no extra cost to you. Thank you for booking via my referral link.
To read more feedback on stay experiences, I suggest that you read each hotel’s commentary leave by other guests.
