I have been approved for PCSO medical assistance since last year when I was undergoing chemo. Last month, my mom was approved for a diagnostic imaging scan, specifically for CT scan of the whole abdomen with contrast. We did not process ourselves, but my husband did for my mama and me, as our representatives. Laking tulong sobra ng PCSO.
I am sharing the process on how to apply and the requirements submitted to request for medical assistance in PCSO. I suppose the required documents are the same with other branches, but I still recommend that you go to the office nearest you to inquire if they will ask for other papers, aside from those mentioned on this blog.
What will PCSO give as medical assistance?
PCSO will not give out cash, instead they will give GL or Guaranteed Letter which you can bring to the approved drug distributor or to the hospital. How much will they give depends on the quotation, your circumstances, the remaining budget of this agency.
During my chemo cycles, I usually get P5,000 of GL to cover one of my chemo medicines. For my mom, she got a GL of P10,000 to cover part of the CT scan cost in Chong Hua, which was P24,875. Mahal talaga magkasakit, buti nalang may mga tumutulong like PCSO.
If you are applying for chemo drugs, PCSO gives GL 6 times in a year max. Last November was my 6th time this 2024, so I was not able to get another one for my hormonal injection this December, thus, I must find the money to buy the meds this month. Good thing, the very helpful evaluating officer in PCSO Cebu said that by January, my husband can go again to their agency and process request for med assistance.
PCSO does not give assistance to buy maintenance medicines like for diabetes, hypertension, etc.
Anyhow, these are the process and requirements in seeking help from this government agency. Within the day, if you have complete papers, you will be done and will get the GL.
Be early sa PCSO, accepting of papers in Cebu branch is until 12 noon lang.
