Today is what 32 days before Christmas? Hapit na dyud ang Pasko!
Are you excited? I know I am hehe 🙂
What I’ll miss though for this Christmas is not being able to visit big bazaars in Manila like Noel Bazaar and World Christmas Bazaar. I don’t buy much but I like bazaar window shopping and checking out items on bargains hehe.
Some of the best finds I’ve had from these bazaars were decorated Christmas boxes and a Sagrada de Familia carving but that was like 2 or 3 years ago.
When I saw those special Christmas theme decors especially the boxes I knew right away where they came from – Paete, Laguna! I asked the bazaar vendors for confirmation and yep, I was right.
Decorative Boxes from Paete
*These two boxes belong to my sister, she bought this last year from World Christmas Bazaar in World Trade Center Pasay.
I especially like the Christmas theme boxes with all their glitters, bright colors and that special holiday feel =) Too bad I don’t have a sample for it. 🙁
Paete is best known for their artisans and their intricate, beautiful wood carvings and export quality paper mache and other decorative products. You can also find expert carvers and skillful artisans that do commissioned work right there on the stores selling handicraft. Usually the first level of their homes is factory, store and showroom rolled into one. You can watch these artists while they work and create their magic on wood, paper, resin and other materials.
If you want to see more pics of various wooden carvings and masterpieces from this town in Laguna, please check this post: Paete, The Philipines Wood Carving Capital.
Products of Paete Laguna, good for pasalubong too!
There are also many stores offering paintings, colorful maskaras, decorative paper mache products of various shapes and sizes, beautiful boxes, wood carvings of famous persons, life-size religious statues and more.
But what gets me excited is that Paete also have something special for the Christmas season! You’d find most stores decorated with hand crafted Santa Claus figures like climbing santas, flying santas, and all sorts of santas 🙂 There are also giant belens or nativity scenes, lots of Christmas decors and ornaments! Just my kind of town =)
Christmas is not complete without sharing wonderful moments with our love ones, even Santa and Mrs Santa seems to agree! Here they are enjoying Noche Buena with the hard-working elves.
I think I want one of these Christmas decor sets next holiday hehehe 🙂
Christmas Ornament and Decors Available in Paete Handicraft Stores
I think majority of crafts and handmade items produced in Paete are exported but there are still many that makes it ways to our local markets. Anyhow, isn’t it cool to have a flying santa? That would make gift giving faster for Mr. Santa which means more happy and grinning kids as they received early Christmas gifts.
No Reindeers? No Problem!
If you can have 3 Christmas wishes, what would you wish for?

If you need to find affordable decors to grace your home this Christmas or to give away as gifts or pasalubong to friends and family, go to Paete, it’ll be a fun road trip and bargain hunting in one!
Have a Merry, Joyous Christmas!!! Spread the Christmas cheer!
