Baler Aurora’s Balete Tree
Three weeks after I climbed (all thureee”sides”) of the infamous tree, I’m still sick.
I was already sick prior to the trip but of course (rolls eyes, slightly) it has to be my disturbance of “their” home that would cause the coughing fit, and it’s always worse just before I try to sleep.
Do I believe that there are Others/Elementals? Of course I do!
I remember this tiny crazy laugh I heard as a child waking up in the middle of the night – it’s like hearing that laugh in a Yano song though freakier and more sinister… Or the times the guitar get strummed in the dead of night, inside its case… And that time, waking up and seeing a child in front of the PC, “she” must have felt that I was awake as she came near the bed, leaned her face right in front of mine.. I tried to stare back but I could not see a face, just hair framing a void.. still sluggish and brain running on 1bps, I wasn’t really scared until she floated to the headboard and disappeared into the wall..
So yeah I believe we are not alone on this Earth nor in this Universe – it will be very arrogant for us to think otherwise. Admittedly, there may be times I forget about others in my excitement and haste.. I am sorry if that is so. I do not mean any disrespect. I also cannot believe these “others” would be so overly sensitive and vindictive (knowing they cannot be seen, rolls eyes again).
But due to the result of this particular “photoshoot”, the father had admonished us (Us, because the Ate and her hubby got sick, too !! -0.o-) that there’ll be No More Climbing of Trees!! Hoist! Unsaon nalang ang Balete tree sa Negros Occ ani, I already paid for my ticket to Bacolod City!
Tsk, tsk.. I guess there’d be no more Summer photoshoot for me. But can I please get well soon? Like very soon? I kinda miss ice cream and chocolates..
Cille’s Notes:
This is a guest post of my sister Kenneth aka Kendi aka Diane. =) Yes she can string words better than me, she’s the creative one in the family, am the street smart haha.
And yes, I am still sick too but getting better (I think..) and Titus magaling na, yeyyy! According to Titus, ’twas not the works of Baler’s Balete and Not Like Ours but that a potent strain from Cebu that traveled with Kenneth and only those who have lived in Opon gets it. This is why Julie who shared the same bed with Kenneth did not get sick, says the hubby. Lol.
Confused what is Not Like Ours? Check this post.
I called our home in Cebu while I was coughing incessantly and Papa said we should have requested permission before we climbed the Balete and explored the hollow inside it. Told him that I did, I said ‘papasok po‘ but hmmm yahhh I did not ask permission when I climbed, I too was excited to latch onto the branches of Aurora’s famous millennium tree. Hmmm.
**The visit to the Balete is part of our Baler Town Tour via Tricycle. The tree’s location is actually in Maria Aurora.
When you come visit Baler and go on a tour, do check out the Balete. Its inside is very interesting and dare I say a great venue for taking those “it” shots especially when the sun ray’s cast a golden shadow in its nooks. But it may be wise and prudent to ask permission to enter first from those who dwell on it whether you believe that there are Not Like Ours or not.
On another note, this Balete tree has a different vibe than the one in Siquijor. Siquijor’s Balete seems to be embraced in mystery, this one is more ‘open’, ‘commercialized’ quips Kenneth. Lol. Mayhap because this millennium tree requires visitors to pay P10 per person entrance fee. ^_^ It is still a must do and see when you are in Baler in my books.
In any case I hope my sister and I gets well soonest. Keeping my fingers crossed, and taking cough meds and fruit juices in the meantime. ^_^

p.s. the Yano Song the sister mentioned is of course “Banal Na Aso, Santong Kabayo“. Do you have similar supernatural stories and experiences?
