My Experience with KwikCare HMO Plans

I used to champion KwikCare, sharing the good things about it to friends and family, encouraging them to explore and avail their HMO plans. But not anymore. This post is to share my personal experience about this product.

I signed up with Kwik Insure Health Subscription Plan in September 2023, my plan is KwikCare Max Plan 1495, with Maximum Benefit Limit (MBL) of P150,0000. I was paying P1,495 monthly.

Then came my first renewal in September 2024 wherein I got Kwik’s email notice that my renewal premium rate has increased.

I was disheartened that my monthly premium for my Kwik Insure HMO plan subscription has tremendously increased to P2,990. This was a big jump from the old rate of P1,459, a 105% increase in premium rate. Ouch, but still I continued with my Max plan with them, which was tied-up with Philcare.

Philcare is good, easy to contact for LOA request for both consultation and lab tests, via email and hotline.

Why I signed-up with Kwik Insure HMO?

The biggest reason why I signed-up with Kwik Insure back in 2023 was that they are cheaper than most HMO offers in the Philippines plus they have a comprehensive coverage for pre-existing conditions at that time. This 2026, I believe there are now additional conditions for PEC coverage and that there are select pre-existing conditions which are no longer covered like cancers, tumor, etc.

Please read the full terms and conditions of coverage including the exclusions, if you are considering signing-up with KwikCare. If in case you have pre-existing illnesses, check if you are eligible for cover, it’s best to reach out to them via email so you have their answers in black and white.

Why the big jump in premium?

Based on my understanding of the renewal notice sent to me in September 2024, my renewal premium is as such (from P1,495 to P2,990 for the same P150,000 MBL) because of my utilization within the policy year.

I had doctor’s consultations, lab tests, and an MRI scan that was covered by my Kwik Insure health plan. I requested KwikCare for info on my total utilization or availment for my 1st year with them and I learned that I consumed almost P33,000 out of my P150,000 MBL.

The technical term mentioned by Kwikcare is Medical Loss Ratio (MLR).

I supposed that it is an industry practice for premium to increase during renewal if you used your individual / family hmo. I believe company benefit HMO doesn’t have this increase in premium, even if you max-out the MBL in a previous cycle or year, or if there happens to be an increase, it’s not a big jump. If I am wrong, kindly correct me, thanks.

Anyhow, feeling ko malaki masyado ang increase from P1,495 to P2,990 monthly for using the HMO in the previous policy year for just around P33,000, tapos ang MBL ko was P150,000. Maybe they have other consideration for the huge increase, I don’t know.

Anyway, my bigger disappointment with KwikCare is not the premium jump, but that they did not give me a working link to renew my plan before my policy anniversary came up last September 2025, or kung mag-increase man ng sobra ang renewal ko, ininform sana nila ako kung how much para I can decide on my own if kaya ko ipagpatuloy or hindi na, hindi yung laging under “re-computation”  at “under evaluation” ang reply nila sa queries ko.

Again, my policy anniversary is September, August pa lang I tried to pay the renewal subscription na but I got a non-working link. When I followed-up with them to ask for reason or a working renewal link, they said na under evaluation pa daw account ko. Although, there was an offer to pay the usual P2,990 for the first month of the renewal period but I can only use the remaining MBL from the previous policy year.

Ang gusto ko sana that time mabigyan ako ng info to be able to renew my plan like normal – new monthly fee (if may rate increase), reset MBL back to P150,000.

In October 2025, I got a policy cancellation notice, but puede ko pa daw mareinstate yung plan ko. I contacted them again to asked for clarifications, especially about if marereset na ba ang MBL ko pag magbayad ako, kasi di ba September pa yung policy anniversary ko. Ang sabi is my anniversary offer is still under re-computation and kung gusto kong iactivate ulit, yung natirang MBL nalang ang puede kong magamit. End of August pa ako nag fofollow-up for the renewal link, September ang policy anniversary ko, 3rd week of October under “re-computation” pa din. Bakit hindi ifinalize para mag-bayad ako kung kaya ko ang new premium rate, tapos refresh to new MBL na ulit plan ko? Nadisappoint talaga ako sa Kwikcare dahil dito.

Oh well..
