SSS Disability benefit is among the offered benefits of Social Security System for its members. This claim can be for partial disability or total disability.
I am a breast cancer patient. I have already filed my 120 days of SSS sickness benefit after I had my MRM or modified radical mastectomy. The last day covered by my sickness claim was October 16, 2023. I was able to get P54,000 sickness benefit, P450 per day x 120 days. SSS deposited this directly to my DAEM-enrolled bank account.
FILING FOR PARTIAL DISABILITY
I first applied for partial disability last October 8 via online, but my claim was rejected. This is because October 8 to 16 is still covered by my sickness benefit claim. In the rejection email, SSS advised me to re-file the disability claim AFTER October 16.
The second time I filed was last November 6. After 8 days, i.e. November 14, I received a txt message from SSS saying that my partial disability claim has been approved and that the money, the initial benefit lumpsum payment, will be deposited to my account on or before November 20.
To know how many months I was approved for partial disability pension and how much I will get, I logged-in to My SSS Members area. Login to SSS > Benefits > Claim Info
These are the info I found:
My partial disability pension is approved for 23 months; pension start date is October 17, 2023.
The initial benefit or the lumpsum given by SSS is P32,466.68, which already covers the first four months pension (October, November, and December 2023, plus January 2024).
My basic partial disability pension is P6,616.67 per month. I will get SSS monthly pension starting February 2024.
My SSS CYS (Credited Year of Service) is 11.666.
My SSS AMSC (Average Monthly Salary Credit) is P16,541.67.
*The CYS and AMSC will affect the calculation of how much a pensioner will get monthly from SSS. Those who are paying high MSC contribution, like the maximum, will also get bigger pension.
When will my pension ends? Since my pension started October 2023 and I was approved for 23 months, I am expecting that the last month I will receive a partial disability pension is September 2025.
After the 23 months, I can file again for the 2nd time the disability pension if and only if I am still on treatment that time. I pray I don’t have to re-apply to SSS when that time comes because I am completely healed by then. Praying for God’s mercy, healing and miracle.
The monthly disability pension is a big help for my ongoing treatment. As of today, I am done with 7 cycles of chemo, but I still have 9 more cycles to go. Then after, I will undergo radiation therapy, to be followed by hormonal therapy. There will also be quarterly lab tests and scanning tests for monitoring. I still have a long way to go as far as my cancer treatment is concerned, so I am very thankful that I get financial assistance like this disability pension from SSS.
What requirements did I submit to file a SSS disability claim?
I submitted the following documents online via SSS website. I did not go to any SSS branch to file the claim. Online processing is fast if requirements are complete.
For those submitting multiple documents, I recommend putting multiple docs in one PDF file. This is how I did it:
- I made a pdf containing the duly accomplished SSS disability claim form (my husband got this form from a branch but you can also download online at SSS website), SSS medical certificate form signed by my doctor, and my chemotherapy prescription, abstract, and treatment protocol.
Then I made another pdf file:
- The second pdf contained Certified True Copies (CTC) of my MRM operation, medical abstract, discharge notes and CTC of my Biopsy Histopathology Result.
In online claim filing, SSS only allows 2 files to be uploaded and submitted, that’s why I made 2 pdfs only.
To be honest, I had a hard time making the pdf file less than 3MB in file size, as is required by SSS. I made multiple attempts to reduce the file size. It took awhile before I was able to meet the 3 MB limit and submit successfully.
After submitting my claim online, the whole process of SSS medical evaluation and approval was fast! Now, I am just waiting for the lumpsum to be deposited to my bank account. Update: The money is now in my bank account, deposited last November 16, 2 working days lang after I got the sms approval notification. May extra pa, kasama na ang 13th month, di ko expected to, ang saya!. Thank you SSS!
