It’s the season of Christmas hams!!! Or at least very soon. Hello Media Noche and Noche Buena feasts! 😉
Those in charge of the Christmas budget, see this Penfires post for the updated prices of Christmas hams in SM Supermarket, specifically for brands CDO and Purefoods.
For most Filipinos having a ham for the Christmas feast, or even for the New Year’s midnight meal completes the celebration. Part na ng Paskong Pinoy. Kahit may lechon, hinahanap pa din ang tinaguriang ‘star of the noche buena’. No wonder there are generous companies which gives-out Christmas ham to their employees during the holiday, as a Christmas present. This is usually aside from the Christmas basket, if you are lucky hehe.
When I was working for Wyeth years back, we get 2 hams; one para sa Pasko and the other one para sa Bagong Taon. I usually give mine away to my neighbors since (1) I always go home to Cebu to celebrate the holidays with my family, and I can’t store the hams since I don’t have a refrigerator in my rented studio apartment. Plus, I can’t imagine myself gorging all the hams by my lone self lol. (2) Christmas is for sharing and it has become a tradition for me to give it away to the tambays in our neighborhood, their grins and ‘ayos!’ makes it all worth it. I love Christmas traditions haha.
*Ahhhh, I miss getting free Christmas hams from the company, hehe. I miss my Calamba neighborhood while writing this. Good memories. 🙂
DIFFERENT HAMS AVAILABLE IN THE MARKET
There are different types of hams which also comes with different prices – pear shape, whole meat, fiesta ham, jamon de bola, and many more. The weight of hams available in most supermarket are usually 1 kilograms and 800 grams. Christmas hams also comes in chicken, aside from pork, for those who wants to serve a ‘healthier version’.
These prices were taken just last November 13, 2017 from SM Supermarket. I don’t know what is the official company SRP or suggested retail price. You can try to go to your favorite supermarket to compare the ham prices too. It’s never too early to prepare for the Christmas feast!

These hams for Christmas Noche Buena and New Year’s Media Noche can be eaten straight away. But my family prefers frying first. You can read here my family’s verdict when we compared Purefoods versus CDO hams in a one-on-one taste-test for these companies’ premium ham line.
For 2018 holidays, we will be getting one of each Purefoods fiesta ham and CDO Premium boneless ham. It might be time to make a Version 2.0 of our taste test hehe. I’ll try my best to update the prices here.
*The prices of these hams listed on this post may change without prior notice. Also, look out for freebies as Christmas nears. Sometimes these two companies go head to head not only when it comes to pricing their offer, but also when it comes to the freebies given to buyers. In any case, good competition is great for consumers like you and me. 😉
